In 1895, Daniel invented a machine capable of cutting crystals with extraordinary precision to create brilliant light-filled stones at his home in the Tyrolean Alps. Crystals are still produced at our historic headquarters today, and we continue to draw on Daniel’s legacy and our rich heritage of savoir-faire to inspire everything we create and innovate.
As soon as Crystals were introduced to the world, they exerted a mysterious fascination, combining precision cutting with the natural beauty of sunlight and the night sky. Daniel and his sons instinctively collaborated with couturiers, who were, in turn, inspired by the creative possibilities of ever-evolving materials. The most distinctive were the iridescent Aurora Borealis crystals, which became the signature embellishment of Christian Dior in the 1950s.

In an interview about the Crystal Catsuit featured in Alexander McQueen’s seminal spring/summer 2004 Deliverance show, leading fashion photographer Nick Knight described as ‘an important patron of the arts, they have been for a long time.’

Kristallwelten was opened in 1995 to mark the company’s centennial anniversary. Multimedia artist André Heller designed a unique and magical place. This beloved attraction has brought moments of wonder to over fifteen million visitors from all around the world. Visitors are surprised, touched, and perhaps even transformed by crystals in all their facets.
